CellScope Retina is a portable, affordable, and easy-to-use smartphone-based camera that decreases the barrier for retinal screening for eye diseases.
Our device helps eliminate technological barriers that keep people from getting screened for a preventable disease. We believe this is a huge step towards providing quality healthcare for everyone.
CellScope Retina is a portable, affordable, and easy-to-use smartphone-based camera that decreases the barrier for retinal screening for eye diseases. It transforms a complicated screening test, traditionally performed in an eye care specialist’s office because of high equipment and training costs, into one that can be done in a primary care physician’s (PCP) office by a medical assistant. The CellScope Retina simplifies this process: patients need not worry about unnecessary referrals to specialists, while PCPs can better care for patients, improve their outcome metrics, and gain a new billable procedure. The main source of revenue is from a “per-click” fee, which takes a small percentage of the insurance billing code for fundus photography procedure. The target market is primary care clinics. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common microvascular complication of Diabetes mellitus and affects 40-45% of Americans with diabetes. Despite widely accepted screening guidelines and effective treatments, nearly half of adults in the U.S. do not receive recommended annual screening for DR.
